Calling Visa is important to understand if you’re going abroad frequently. A country issues this Visa to citizens of another country who are considered to have a certain level of vulnerability.

What is a Calling Visa in Indonesia?

A Calling Visa in Indonesia allows nationals from specific countries to enter for a short period, usually 30 days, when they must apply for a regular visa at the Indonesian immigration office.

This Visa is regulated by Article 1 (35) of Regulation of Ministry of Law and Human Rights Number 22, 2023, concerning Visa and Stay Permit.

  • The purpose is to facilitate a short visit to apply for a regular visa.
  • Calling Visas are typically issued at airports and seaports in Indonesia.
  • Holders can only work or engage in activities with a valid work permit.
  • Overstaying is a punishable offense, leading to fines, imprisonment, or deportation.

The Calling Visa Country List

What You Need To Know About Calling Visa in Indonesia

Several factors can cause a country to be included in the Calling Visa country list, including:

1. Unstable Political and Security Conditions

In certain countries with unstable political and security situations, it is more probable for their citizens to overstay their visas when traveling abroad. This is often because they might be escaping from conflicts or persecution back home and unable to return safely.

2. High Crime Rates

Countries with high crime rates are also more likely to have nationals who overstay their visas. This is because they may try to avoid prosecution for their crimes in their home country.

3. Frequent Cases of Visa Abuse

Countries with high rates of visa misuse may be included in the Calling Visa country list due to nationals exploiting visas for illegal work or other activities in Indonesia.

4. Uncontrolled Cases of Disease Spread

Indonesia includes countries with uncontrolled cases of disease spread in its visa calling list. This prevents foreign citizens from carrying diseases that could threaten public health.

The exclusion of Cameroon from the Calling Visa list is based on various considerations, including the potential for economic cooperation and the low negative impact (vulnerability/risk) on Indonesia.
